UKTV to Launch Eight Themed Streaming Channels on Freely and LG Channels

UKTV is set to bring eight new themed streaming channels to Freely and LG Channels before the end of the year, giving viewers another way to enjoy some of Britain’s best-loved television programmes.

The new channels will focus on individual shows from UKTV’s extensive library, including Antiques Roadshow, Bargain Hunt, Casualty, DIY SOS, EastEnders, Gardeners’ World, Holby City and Top Gear.

Each channel will be dedicated to a particular programme, allowing viewers to tune in for a continuous stream of familiar favourites rather than choosing individual episodes on demand.

The additions fall under the category of Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST), a growing part of the television industry. These channels are delivered over the internet and typically feature a continuous schedule built around a particular programme, genre or theme, with advertising helping to fund the service.

Freely, which is backed by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, is developed and operated by Everyone TV, the organisation responsible for promoting and supporting free television in the UK. The broadband-based service brings together live channels and on-demand content, offering an alternative to traditional aerial and satellite television.

While Freely is seen as an important part of the future of free-to-air television, it is not yet a replacement for existing platforms such as Freeview, Freeview Play and Freesat.

The launch will also mark the first time UKTV has brought its new FAST channels to both Freely and LG Channels, expanding the broadcaster’s presence across internet-connected television services.

Jonathan Newman, Chief Commercial Officer at UKTV and BBC Studios UK Region, said: “The launch of these channels is an exciting moment for UKTV, helping us reach new audiences, unlock advertising revenue and grow our streaming presence through harnessing the power of great British television. We’re delighted to be launching with LG Channels and Freely for the first time.”

UKTV is wholly owned by BBC Studios, the BBC’s commercial subsidiary, and operates channels and streaming services featuring a broad range of entertainment, comedy and drama. Its established brands include Dave, Gold, Drama and W.

The eight new channels are expected to begin rolling out across Freely and LG Channels before the end of 2026. UKTV is also in discussions with other platforms, suggesting that further distribution deals could follow as the broadcaster looks to expand its FAST channel offering.
